Important data on education in a new version of the database
Dropout and completion of upper secondary and higher education opens up as a field of analysis after the latest data extension in microdata.no. The new version of the data base includes data on date started, date completed or not completed, and number of semesters used.
Data on when a person started upper secondary or higher education, if finished: When, and with how many active semesters needed, are examples of variables in the latest data extension in microdata.no of 18 January 2022. The variables cover the period from January 1974 to September 2020.
In microdata.no you are free to match this information about dropout, completion and study progression with the person’s social background and also contextual data, for example on the parents’ education and income. You can also compare over time and place.
All in all microdata.no now offers 80 education variables.
Workplace
The new extension also includes data about the person’s municipality of work, taken from the A-ordningen, the monthly employment data from the Norwegian Tax Administration and NAV – the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration. Along with that, microdata.no also contains quarterly data on the municipality of residence. This enables you to observe municipality of work and residence at the same time.
Updates and expansions
The data collection in microdata.no is expanded and updated continuously. In this version, you get 24 new variables and 8 others are updated.
The update status of data in the service is approximately the same as for the latest data release in Statistics Norway for the same data.
The database now contains 348 variables. The plan is to increase this to over 1,000 during 2022 and 2023.
